This unique cooking phenomenon, often achieved with slow-cooked chicken, creates a versatile and fun base for countless dishes. This recipe transforms an ordinary chicken breast into tender, stringy shreds that can be used in tacos, salads, soups, or served as a pasta alternative. It's an exciting twist on classic chicken dishes that will surprise your family and elevate your mealtime creativity.
Ingredients
2 large chicken breasts (boneless and skinless)
1 cup chicken broth or water
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
Directions
Prepare the Chicken: Rinse the chicken breasts and pat them dry. Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
Cook the Chicken:
Slow Cooker Method: Place the chicken breasts in a slow cooker. Add chicken broth or water and cook on low for 6–7 hours or on high for 3–4 hours.
Stovetop Method: Place the chicken in a pot, cover with broth or water, and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Shred the Chicken:
Once cooked, use two forks to pull the chicken apart into fine, spaghetti-like strands. The slow cooking process makes the meat exceptionally tender, allowing it to shred easily.
Serve or Store: Use immediately in your favorite recipes or let it cool and store it for later use.
