Bladder cancer is a disease that is often underestimated, as its first symptoms may be discreet or confused with other benign conditions. Yet early detection is crucial to improve the chances of recovery. Check out the 10 early warning signs that you don't ignore.
What is bladder cancer?
Bladder cancer develops when abnormal cells multiply uncontrollably in the wall of this organ. It affects both men and women, although men are more at risk. Several factors increase the likelihood of developing this disease, including smoking, exposure to certain chemicals and family history.
10 signs to watch out for
1. Blood in urine (haematuria)
This is the most common symptom of bladder cancer. The urine may be red, dewy or contain traces of blood that can only be seen in a urine test.
2. Frequent need to urinate
If you feel a urge to urinate more often than usual, even without drinking more fluids, this may be a warning sign.
